Zachary N Shields

Zachary began his career producing the Webby Award winning, online documentary 'Not Seen Not Heard' documenting the effects of the Southeast Asian Tsunami of 2004.  Zachary has shot material for Netflix, ESPN, VICE, Showtime, PBS, STARZ and most recently served as a DP on the Sundance Grand Jury Award Winning Documentary, 'Kailash', produced by Davis Guggenheim and Sarah Anthony. 

In 2013, Zachary worked as a Cinematographer on the Emmy Award Winning Documentary, 'Medora'. The following year, Zachary teamed up with Medora co-Director, Andrew Cohn, to produce and shoot the feature documentary, Night School, unveiling the challenges and harsh realities of adult education in inner-city Indianapolis, IN. The documentary was awarded a MacArthur Foundation grant and premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in 2016. The film is currently streaming on Netflix.

Previously, Zachary produced 'To The Edge', a TV special chronicling the journey of ultra-runner Ray Zahab, as he endeavors to run thousands of miles in some of the most challenging environments on the planet.

Current Projects:

  • Zachary is a Director of Photography on an 8-part doc series for STARZ.  The series follows a season with the Liberty City Warriors, a youth football program founded by an unlikely mentor: Luther Campbell, better known as Uncle Luke from the 2 Live Crew. The series is executive produced by LeBron James and Maverick Carter for SpringHill Entertainment.
  • Zachary is the Director of Photography on a film entitled 'Emmanuel', directed by Emmy Award Winner, Davy Rothbart. The film follows 3 siblings in inner-city Washington, D.C. over the course of 18 years.

He has traveled to, and documented stories in over 25 countries across, North America, South America, Europe, South East Asia and Africa.
